Yuvraj Singh’s comeback is incredible, says Sourav Ganguly
Friday, September 14th, 2012 2:11:24 by Rana Nasir GhafoorFormer Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed satisfaction at Yuvraj Singh’s performance post serious illness, and said that it was an incredible comeback by the Punjab-born all-rounder.
Yuvraj underwent chemotherapy in America earlier this year. Straight after his return to India, the left-hander started training, and made a wonderful comeback to the national setup in the recent T20 home series against New Zealand.
In both matches, Yuvraj did a very fine job with the bat. Ganguly was not reluctant to give full credit to the Southpaw, saying that he looked quite fit in the recently concluded clash with the Black Caps.
"It is incredible to say the least. In spite of lack of match practice there were glimpses of vintage Yuvraj in the match. He looks fit and his performance will only improve with time. it was a very satisfying knock," Ganguly told a Bengali news channel.
The Men in Blue have reached Sri Lanka for the imminent World T20. Yuvraj will surely be India’s main player in the mega event. Ganguly also uttered that the shortest version of the game is an ideal platform for Yuvraj to return to his best form.
"T20 is ideal platform for him to start his comeback as he will spend only 3-4 hours on the field. The mental and the physical exertion will be less when compared to the longer formats of the game," said Ganguly.
"He is a proven performer and expectations have always been high from him. Not only the fans but the team will also expect consistent performance from him. He has played for a long time to be bothered by the burden of expectations," he added.
The 30-year-old has played 24 T20 Internationals so far, scoring over-600 runs at an average of 31.63. His left-arm spin often becomes a threat to even the best in business. He has so far scalped eight T20 wickets.
The highlight of Yuvraj’s T20 career was six consecutive sixes, which he hit Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Ahead of the start of big event, Team India is due to play a warm-up game against arch-rival Pakistan.
