Supreme Court grants interim-bail to Ali Musa Gilani

Friday, September 14th, 2012 12:07:04 by

The Supreme Court on Friday accepted the interim bail of MNA Ali Musa Gilani in the ephedrine quota case, giving him time to September 25.

Earlier, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested Musa from outside the Supreme Court when he came to the apex court to seek pre-arrest bail.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed while taking notice of Musa’s bail plea directed the ANF to produce him before the court within half an hour.

While speaking to the media, Ali Musa Gilani said he was not the main accused in the case and there were only charges of putting pressure in the case.

He observed that the ANF personnel arrested him illegally and manhandled, adding that being the public representative‚ he has always respected the courts but those in the uniform on Friday committed the contempt of court.

Ali Musa invoked the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court against the LHC verdict which denied him a pre-arrest bail in the Ephedrine case on September 3.

The apex court recently granted pre-arrest bail to Federal Minister for Textile Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin till September 25 in the same case.

Counsel for Ali Musa Gilani, Khalid Ranjha filed a pre-arrest bail under Article 185-(3) of the Constitution, saying that neither his client was nominated in the FIR nor in any of the challans submitted by the prosecution before the court.

The counsel further said, “It is needless to add that even though there is no evidence of incriminating nature against my client, warrants have been obtained out of sheer malice, ill will and by keeping the court deliberately in the dark”.

He was of the opinion that the FIR was being used a rouse to arrest Ali Musa Gilani and thereby to defame him in the eyes of his electorate and destroy image of the family.

He claimed, “Under the circumstances, it is prayed that special leave to appeal may very graciously be granted against order of the LHC of September 3”.

The lawyer also requested the court for interim relief, saying that there was no evidence against his client in connection to the ephedrine quota allocation but his arrest has been sought for political reasons.

  1. Hello,
It’s a pity that ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine are so easily reduced to methamphetamine.
What was a cheap and effective medicine since 5,000 years is now a way to corrupt people through drug trafficking.
With friends doctors we have created a blog, trying to give our honest point of view (politicians care about power, companies care about money, we care about people): http://ephedrinewheretobuy.com/prescription-for-ephedrine-our-own-point-of-view
Our hope would be that the pharmaceutical industry could start producing ephedrine in a chemical form that couldn’t be used as drug precursor.
    Cheers,
    Mike

  2. Hello,
With all respect, I feel that these repeated postponements might throw doubt on justice for many people. It it getting close to a kind of new “Watergate scandal”…
    Cheers,
    Mike
