Irfan Pathan has been bowling quite well since returning from a long injury. He was India’s most successful bowler in the recently concluded One Day International series against New Zealand.
The left-arm medium pacer showed a few stunning performances, including a classy five-wicket haul. Pathan himself is pretty happy with his current form, saying that he loves the zip that he is getting off the wicket these days.
"I’m really happy with my seam position, and I’ve done a lot of work on that. I’m really happy with the way things are going and the zip that I’m getting off the wicket," Irfan said on Friday.
Pathan will be India’s one of the important players in the imminent T20 World Cup. He has often been discussed for lack pack, but the all-rounder is not perturbed.
"A lot of people talk about my pace, but I’m generally never bothered. I’m not an out-and-out quick bowler. Everyone has their own gifts and I have my strengths and weaknesses as well," he uttered.
Pathan has always been the centre of peoples’ expectations. He was widely regarded as Kapil Dev’s successor in 2003, when he started playing international cricket. The all-rounder was not reluctant to admit that he was under severe pressure because of the
heavy expectations.
"This is what I’ve learnt throughout the year. I love playing, but sometimes you just put too much pressure on yourself by thinking about performance. Eventually you have to come down to the level where you love the game and you just play," he stated.
"I’ve tried to learn a few tricks in terms of thinking out the batsmen. The more experience I have, the better I’m getting in terms of that. I think that long term, that’s what I want to keep working on. I will do whatever the team needs."
The Men in Blue have started off their World Cup journey on a high, beating Sri Lanka in a warm-up game on Friday. Ahead of the first group game, Team India is due to meet arch-rival Pakistan in another warm-up encounter.
