Darren Sammy all praise for Sunil Narine
Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 1:04:15 by Rana Nasir GhafoorWest Indian captain Darren Sammy has lavished praise on his bowlers, particularly Sunil Narine, describing that the off-spinner brings plenty of ‘quality to the side’.
"Sunil is someone who brings quality to the side. We can use him anytime, during the powerplay, in the middle overs and at the end of the innings. It depends on the situation. He can come and bowl anytime, that’s his quality," said Sammy after his side advanced
to the Super Eights of the ICC World Twenty.
The Windies were lucky to make it to the Super Eights by virtue of superior run-rate. After a rain-hit game against Australia, the showers did not stop following the Caribbean Kings, as their encounter against Ireland ended in no results.
However, a lot better run-rate than the Irishmen helped the Caribbean side storm into the next round of the World T20 championship. Sammy and company will meet England in their first Super Eight contest, and the skipper believes that Narine will be key factor
in the sub-continent conditions.
"I saw their (England) game against India yesterday. It’s good for us and it would be the first time that England will be playing him (Narine) where conditions offer him some assistance. Last time when we played in England, the wickets were not friendly
to Narine. We know that on a turner, he can be very handful," said the skipper.
He added, "It’s a very important game for us. We do fancy our chances against them. We watch them play last night, we have enough footage on them. Judging from what we saw the other day, we have got some quality spinners and I am confident that they will
play their part in the match against England."
Sammy was enormously delighted over his bowlers’ decent show in Monday’s contest against Ireland. He stated that the guys did a very fine job to keep things tight in the initial overs of the innings.
He was all praise for Ravi Rampaul and Fidel Edwards for their wonderful show with the ball, adding that Narine kept things tight in the middle. He also hoped for an equally good show in the following World Cup games.
