Apple should have kept our maps, says Eric Schmidt
Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 6:52:41 by Farasat AliGoogle has not made ??any move to make Google Maps to iPhone 5, after the failures of the new system maps, as Eric Schmidt explained at a meeting with journalists in Tokyo.
“We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call.” The CEO was quoted as saying.
Schmidt added that Google and Apple were in constant communication at all levels but clarified that any Google Maps for the App Store would have to be accepted by Apple.
Google and Apple were close associates with the original iPhone in 2007, but the ties between the two have been affected by the rise of the Android OS, the world’s leading platform for Smartphones.
Schmidt expects Google partner Apple to continue the search on the iPhone but said the issue was for Apple.
“I’m not doing any predictions. We want them to be our partner. We welcome that. I’m not going to speculate at all what they’re going to do. They can answer that question as they see fit.” He concluded
Regarding systems in mobile, was clear: "Apple is the exception, and the Android system is the common model, so our market share is much higher." For Google’s CEO success has often been ignored by the media, "obsessed with events marketing of
Apple and the Apple brand. That’s great for Apple, but the numbers fall on our side.” he went on.
Schmidt, who was in Japan to announce the launch of the Nexus One tablet, used the device to show a new feature of Google Maps that allows users to switch map without touching the screen.
