Ajay Jayaram, the most promising Indian shuttler, showed his elevated craft and secured his berth in Men’s Singles second round after beating Zi Liang Derek Wong of Singapore in first round clash at Yonex Japan Open 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, on September 19.
The World Number 23 Jayaram, who has been making his presence strongly felt to the world, showed his impressive speed and aggression on court and sent his Singaporean opponent packing by defeating him in a dominating manner.
Jayaram was at his best as he did not show any mercy to Zi Liang in the whole contest and easily finished it up in straight sets with a dominating margin in just 26 minutes.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Zi Liang could not show a strong performance as he failed to target the loopholes of his Indian opponent and lost the contest in without winning any game.
The in-form Indian shuttler presented a spectacular show of positive attacking badminton and remained in remarkable position all the way in opening half.
Until the mid-game interval, Jayaram was leading on the score board with a huge 11-4 margin on the score board.
After the break, the higher ranked Jayaram remained consistent in putting up amazing show while remaining focused on the board.
Indian shuttler executed powerful smashes and net killings which helped him to maintain his upper hand over his rival.
Jayaram remained on track as he did not face any tough resistance from Zi Liang in the opening game and won it with a dominating margin of 21-14.
In the second game, Zi Liang geared up his speed and tried to play attacking badminton which helped him to stay close to his rival at the initial stage.
Nevertheless, the Indian player accelerated his speed and controlled the pace of rallies. He managed an 11-8 lead until the end of starting half.
After the one-minute break, Jayaram did not show any sign of sluggishness on court and continued playing attacking badminton without showing any mercy to Zi Liang.
Jayaram easily too the second set while remaining positive on court with a 21-14 score on the board.
The lofty Indian shuttler proved his mettle in opening round as he finished the battle with a striking margin of 21-14 and 21-14.
