In a surprising turn of events, one of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) most colourful and devoted members, Dr. Shireen Mazari, resigned not only from her post of Central Vice President, but also from basic membership of the young political party “purely based on political issues”.
Mazari was well known around the PTI and termed to be an activist in the sense that she stood up against even Imran Khan himself when she thought that there was something wrong going on in the party activities. But according to the seasoned politician, things had just gotten to the point of no return within the party hierarchy.
One of the more shocking aspects of her resignation that has left many PTI workers in awe is that her terming the membership and internal party elections as being ‘hijacked’. Both of these aspects were something that the PTI staunchly believed in and boasted at any chance they got, but seeing how on from within has termed their source of pride to be rigged, it will be interesting to see how chairman Khan acts in the upcoming days.
“Not leaving PTI for any other party, purely based on political issues,” said Mazari in her messages. “Party program has been taken over by ‘big money’. The membership drive was hijacked by ‘big money’. This has compromised the party elections.”
Amazingly, the party which supports a revolution in Pakistan and elimination of the status quo, did not fail at any platform to insult the now former vice president of the party and her daughter after her remarks against how the party is handling her affairs.
“the way they [PTI] treated my daughter on twitter, abusing her over my remarks, is unacceptable.”
This is not the first ‘original’ party worker of the PTI to have quit in recent days, but a number of diehard activists and founders have been sidelined due to the newer group that has been taking over party matters nowadays, including time tested people like Shiekh Rasheed.
