Thursday, September 27th, 2012 3:15:00 by Faisal FarooqFormer chief minister and Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Thursday presented five recommendations for the province in the Supreme Court, saying that pardons and packages would not resolve the issue.
The nationalist leader was appeared in the court to provide it with assistance on the issue. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case pertaining to Balochistan law and order situation.
Recording his comments in the apex court, he explained five recommendations in which the first was that the missing people should be recovered and their kidnappers should be brought to court.
He informed the court that the issue of missing persons is very critical in the province and the roots to the problem can be found in the 65-year political history of the province.
Mengal stated that every government deceived the people of Balochistan and the issue has gone beyond the control of agencies reaching foreign elements.
The former chief minister noted, “Whoever was involved in target killings, be it of the Baloch or Hazaras, should be brought to justice. Those responsible for Bugti’s murder should be punished, while migrants should be provided settlements.”
Mengal continued that it was for the first time in the history of the country that they were being summoned by the court as accused.
He stated that over 450 mutilated bodies have been recovered; whose cause of death was no earthquake or tsunami.
Commenting on Dera Bugti, he said: “Dera Bugti is in the state that Bugti’s own wife and children cannot visit his grave. Talks can be held only after these matters are resolved.”
The nationalist leader alleged that the agencies should be held responsible for the situation in the province which was worse that the situation in Kashmir and Palestine.
He further said that he had appeared in the court only to discuss the missing persons issue adding that without the resolution of the missing persons issue the 65-year-old political issue cannot be resolved.
The nationalist leader said that the province had undergone five military operations and no one was answerable so as to what was the fault of the innocent victims.
He also claimed that during the military rule every attempt was made to suppress the political voice of the Baloch people.
