Google says it has not submitted Google Maps with Apple
Thursday, September 27th, 2012 6:23:14 by Usman KhalidGoogle Chairman Eric Schmidt announced on Tuesday in Tokyo that the company has not submitted a new version of Google Maps with Apple for the iOS 6. He further remained a man of few words on the making of such application for App Store.
Google Board of Director’s Chairman did not answer many questions regarding the rife relationship between Apple and Google but made some careful comments. He also did not provide any insight on the timeframe of Google Maps.
“I’m not doing any predictions. We want them to be our partner,” Schmidt said, according to Reuters. “We welcome that. I’m not going to speculate at all what they’re going to do.”
Apple released the newest version of iOS mobile operating system on Wednesday last week. Two days later the iPhone 5 was made available for sale. The Cupertino-based company replaced the Google Maps with its own Maps app in the new OS. Though it brings a number of new features like Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation, it falls short on some of the existing features like transit information.
Further aggravating the reputation of the application is the misleading location information and missing 3D maps of some cities.
Following the criticism on Apple Maps was the obvious rise in the value of Google Maps that spurred rumours that the Mountain View-based company has submitted the newest version for iOS 6 with Apple. However, Google mooted such telltales on Tuesday.
Google Maps was the first mapping software on mobile devices and the default app on all the iOS gadgets until iPhone 5. It was one of the few applications that were pre-installed in the original iPhone in 2007. However, since the release of the Android operating system from Google, that bay in relationship between Apple and Google has widened to greater extent.
Some experts are of the opinion that Apple might have kicked off Google Maps from iPhone in a fit of getting back at its maker for the alleged copied ideas in Android.
