Sun Yang and Yiwen Shao occupied gold medals of Men’s 400m freestyle and Women’s 400m freestyle respectively at the 2012 Chinese National Long Course Swimming Championship.
The Chinese specialist Yang, who improved his own world mark of the 1500m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympic Games, showed no signs of slowing down in the eight-lap event and tapped the wall for gold medal.
His exhausting efforts remained almost four body lengths ahead of his toughest swimmer as he earned his way to the victory stand for gold medal by producing a wonderful time of 3 minutes and 43.97 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Yunqi Li, who stayed 3.99 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as second position holder by producing a nice time of 3 minutes and 47.96 seconds.
Similarly, Li was traced by Kecheng Wang, who remained almost five seconds slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a phenomenal effort of 3 minutes and 52.77 seconds.
Afterwards, Shao served notice of her talent in the Women’s eight-lap freestyle event. She spoiled the party of her opponents in the mediocre distant freestyle event and ensured her place on top of the medal rostrum for the crown.
She remained one and a half body length ahead of her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by submitting a stupendous time of 4 minutes and 07.18 seconds.
The champion was chased by Wenxian Pang, who stayed 1.37 seconds behind and touched the wall for gold medal by producing a nice effort of 4 minutes and 08.55 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Danlu Xu, who remained 0.02 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and surfaced on the finishing blockade by touching the wall with a splendid effort of 4 minutes and 08.57 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated gruelling efforts of all participants in their respective events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their commendable forms at the prize ceremony after the session.
