Caroline Baddock and Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana’e win gold medals – New Zealand Championships

Caroline Baddock and Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana’e won gold medals of Women’s 100m backstroke and Men’s 100m breaststroke at the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships.

Baddock, who made his way into the playoff as strongest swimmer for gold medal, served notice of her talent in the playoff and reached the podium for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.07 seconds.

The champion was chased by Kate Godfrey, who was only 0.15 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.22 seconds for silver medal.

The silver medallist was followed by Rima Williams, who was 0.55 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.77 seconds for bronze medal.

Fourth finest spot of the event was secured by Ebony Maikuku, who remained 0.62 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.39 seconds.

Maikuku was traced by Laura Quilter, who remained 0.17 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall as fifth best finisher by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 02.56 seconds.

Afterwards, Arona-Tuifana’e dominated the 100m breaststroke discipline. With his stupendous efforts in the 100m discipline, Tuifana’e stayed just one arm stroke away from his following swimmer and tapped the wall for the title by producing a time of 1 minute
and 02.81 seconds.

The champion was trailed by George Schroder, who remained 0.20 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.01 seconds for second position.

Schroder was followed by Ashton Baumann, who stayed only 0.26 seconds behind and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.27 seconds for bronze medal.

Baumann remained stayed 0.14 seconds ahead of Julian Layton, who settled on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.41 seconds for fourth position.

Layton was traced by Jacob Garrod, who was 0.30 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 03.71 seconds for fifth position.

In addition, the winners were awarded medals for their invincible efforts after the session.
