MS Dhoni satisfied with India’s performance in World T20
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012 3:41:01 by Rana Nasir GhafoorDespite failing to make it to the semi-finals, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is fully satisfied with India’s performance in the World Twenty20. The Men in Blue won their final Super Eights match against South Africa, but could not qualify for the semis because of
low NRR.
After suffering an awful loss at the hands of Australia in the opening Super Eights match, Team India did well to beat Pakistan comprehensively. Continuing their good work, the Indians took a close 1-run win over the Proteas.
However, they failed to restrict South Africa to 121 or fewer – something required to do in order to storm to the next round. By virtue of their slightly better run-rate, the Men in Green have made it to the semis, where they will face Sri Lanka.
"I think it was quite a satisfactory performance. In this tournament, we lost just one game, though we lost it badly. We all know what impact rain has on bowlers, especially the spinners. So let us get practical about what the reason was and ask whether
it was the real fault of the players,” said Dhoni.
"It is not, it can happen in this format. And when you are at a stage where other games involving other teams can affect you, you don’t want that kind of situation," he added.
The skipper opined that it was not an easy task to restrict the opposition to 121. Talking about the role India Premier League, he uttered: "It was a low score to defend. We won this game by one run, so it is difficult to say that if a few strategies had
been changed, we could have defeated them big."
"The IPL is very different," he said. "I have always said it is a domestic tournament. There are a lot of international players in all sides, but the role of the domestic players is very important. When you are playing against international sides, the bowling
attack of the opposition is much better."
Dhoni and his teammates will now go to South Africa to take part in the Champions League, starting later this month. After playing the T20 tournament, the Indians will meet England in a four-Test home series in mid-November.
