Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday said h the government would cooperate with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan if he engages with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

While speaking to the media, the minister made it clear that the government didn’t prevent PTI from going to South Waziristan but, in fact, informed him of the security threats in the region.

He noted, “The international community has condemned drone attacks by the United States (US) as illegal and that the Pakistani government has also opposed the drone attacks since day one.”

Kaira was also of the opinion that President Asif Ali Zardari has raised the issue of drone strikes and sacrifices made by Pakistan during his recent address to the United Nations.

“The government will not accept any form of terrorism and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wished to resolve the issues of terrorism and Balochistan with cooperation from all political forces,” he added.

Earlier, the minister said that the PPP had never compromised on principles nor its leaders fled abroad despite the worst dictatorial oppression and victimization, adding that the PPP is still blamed for the sins committed by the others.

He continued that the PPP was in a position to form the government in Punjab through coalition with the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), but it preferred to keep its commitments as per the CoD.

Despite the PML-N had withdrawn its support at the Centre but the PPP continued to back it in the province for the cause of democracy, he added.

Kaira opined, “The the PPP government has given autonomy to the provinces, distributed over Rs 900 billion among the provinces, overcome terrorism and made the country self-sufficient despite many hurdles.”

The minister asserted that the next general elections will decide how much Nawaz Sharif is popular among the masses, adding that only elections could determine the popularity of political leaders not the IRI surveys.

He further said that the ruling party will be accountable for the period it is in power, but it could not be held responsible for the actions taken by others before 2008.

He made it clear that the menace of power loadshedding existed before the PPP came into power.
