Play Back Singer Asha Bhosle’s daughter commits suicide
Monday, October 8th, 2012 3:51:35 by Faisal FarooqIn quite a shocking move, Varsha Bhosle, daughter of playback singer Asha Bhosle, has committed suicide at their Peddar Road residence. Varsha, 50-year-old singer/journalist, on Monday shot herself.
The India media quoting officials said that the incident occurred at the family’s Prabhu Kunj residence (where both Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshakar reside). Incidentally, Varsha killed herself with a licensed gun that belongs to the Mangeshkar family.
The reports also claimed that Varsha was undergoing psychiatric treatment. She had fired two rounds at her head.
Varsha, who worked as a freelance journalist, was divorced and was reportedly in depression from a long time.
She had tried to commit suicide in 2008 and 2010 by consuming a heavy dose of sleeping pills. She was, however, immediately taken to the hospital and saved.
The reason to why she attempted suicide in September 2008 has been unknown as the family chose to remain tight-lipped. It was taken as an internal problem that kept pinching Varsha to take such a step.
She was married to Hemant Kenkre and according to Wikipedia, “Varsha wrote columns for the Indian web portal, Rediff, during 1997 – 2003; columns for The Sunday Observer during 1994 – 1998; and for Gentleman magazine in 1993. She also wrote a little for the Times of India.”
Apparently, her mother, Asha Bhosle is in Singapore right now and hasn’t been told about her daughter’s death, though she has been informed that her daughter is in a critical state.
The reports further said that no suicide note has been found from the spot yet.
