Mark Cavendish’s future team is the most discussed topic by the cycling fans across the globe since his announcement of quitting from Team Sky after 2012.
Rumour has it, that Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is interested to have him on the squad for the season ahead.
However, the Belgian team’s Finance Director, Geert Coeman briefed that the team will not breach UCI rules about the rider transfer and are counting on the cyclist to first sort things out with his current team.
“We do not know whether Sky and Cavendish have already taken steps in that direction,” Coeman voiced as reported by Gazet van Antwerpen.
“As long as the release is not there, we cannot start official talks with Cavendish”.
Cavendish signed a three year contract with Team Sky in 2012 and is still under contract for 2013 and 2014 seasons and UCI suggests that both, the cyclist and the team must take permission from UCI before contacting a third party.
It is believed that main reason behind Mark’s decision to leave David Brailsford side is because of the lack of support that he received at the Tour de France 2012.
“We obviously had ambitions that can’t work out,” he noted earlier this month.
“The Tour de France is the hardest sporting event in the world. When you realize that you can’t go in with a double-pronged attack…that maybe became apparent at the Tour”.
“I was incredibly proud to be part of the British team that won the yellow jersey with a British rider [Bradley Wiggins]. That was a big thing in my career”.
The whole team was busy supporting Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome as the duo rode for an overall victory at the French Grand Tour.
The team succeeded in its goals and Bradley Wiggins became the first ever British rider to bag an overall win at the Tour while Christopher Froome finished second after the final general classifications.
Brailsford succeeded in his goals but Cavendish was never given enough support to defend his green jersey and he had to settle for the fourth spot after the final point’s classifications, falling 221 points short of the leader Peter Sagan.
Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol and Matthew Harley Goss of Team Lotto Belisol of team Orica GreenEdge claimed the second and the third positions with 280 and 268 points respectively.
The Belgian news paper Gazet claims that Team Sky is willing to Trade Cavendish for Briton Andrew Fenn, currently employed by Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step until 2014.
