Frank Schleck is the only cyclist who was tested positive at this year’s Tour de France after his sample came positive for Xipamide, a banned diuretic as.
Team RadioShack-Nissan Manager, Johan Bruyneel pulled him out of the race to avoid any further controversies and Tour was Frank’s last race of the season.
Just recently, Frank had a meeting with the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency (ALAD) and noted that he had ‘a good feeling’ as reported by Wort.lu.
“I would first like to thank ALAD; they gave me the opportunity to have my testimony heard,” he briefed.
“We gave our extensive dossier to the appropriate authorities a week ago, and now we have to give them the necessary time to reach a verdict”.
“I am very happy and have a good feeling. We put a lot of time and energy into preparing our defence”.
“I have every confidence that the after our statements and testimony, the disciplinary committee will come to the correct result”.
“I’m here as a friend and to tell the truth,” said Maxime Monfort who acted as a witness.
The cyclist marked his professional debut with Team CSC in 2003 and spent a period of eight years with the team before joining Team Leopard Trek in 2011.
Team Leopard Trek decided to join hands with Team RadioShack to form Team RadioShack-Nissan for the 2012 season and only the top cyclists from both the teams were given contracts with the new team.
Frank’s performance was good enough to earn him a spot in the new team along with his brother Andy Schleck.
Despite his many outstanding performances in the past season, Frank has really struggled to prove his talent this year.
He had to lead the team at the Giro d’Italia 2012 after a last moment call made by Team management which disturbed Schleck’s schedule, as he had planned to ride the Tour de France and was saving his strengths.
His crash during the Giro ruled him out of the race and also created suspicions towards his Tour de France participation.
However, Frank recovered just in time to ride the French Grand Tour but, to his disappointment, it was first time in five-years that he had to ride the three-week race without his brother Andy.
After WADA banned Lance Armstrong and stripped him off from all the seven Tour de France overall victories, the sport of cycling is going through a sensitive phase.
Final decision on Frank Schleck is yet to be made and his suspension will certainly hurt the credibility of the sport and will only disappoint already dejected fans.
