Hollywood starlets Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington condemn Mitt Romney for his stance on abortion in a new a new political ad from liberal group MoveOn.org.
‘I want to talk to you about women,’ Johansson addresses the camera as the video begins.
‘And about Mitt Romney,’ Washington follows her.
The ad was directed by Rob Reiner, the Oscar-nominated director behind such films as the Princess Bride, Misery, and This is Spinal Tap.
MoveOn will air the video nationally, with special focus on the battleground states of Colorado and Virginia.
A Gallup poll of likely women voters in swing states found the president splitting the vote with his rival with 48 per cent supporting Romney and 49 per cent supporting Obama.
The group says the commercial is scheduled to air primarily during television shows with large female audiences.
The actresses go on to attack Romney for threatening to overturn Roe vs. Wade, ending Planned Parenting funding, and allow Republicans to legally redefine rape.
‘If you think that this election won’t affect you and your life, think again,’ Johansson says. ‘Vote for Barack Obama.’
In a statement accompanying the video’s release, Reiner wrote that Romney and running mate Paul Ryan would ‘eviscerate women’s rights’ if they were elected in November.
‘We’d be talking about getting rid of abortion, birth control, access to health care screenings. As a husband, son and father, I can’t stand by and let this happen,’ Reiner wrote.
Romney has said he would support efforts to remove funding from Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood is a women’s health group whose services include abortions.
