Winning a big title was overdue, Dwayne Bravo talks about West Indies’ World T20 win

Veteran West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is relishing World T20 success, and said that claiming a major title was long overdue.

The Caribbean Kings thrashed Sri Lanka in the grand finale to claim their first World title in 33 years. Luck also smiled on the West Indians right through the mega event.

Ahead of beating the home side in the final, Darren Sammy and company outsmarted Australia in the semi-final clash.

The team did not rely entirely on Chris Gayle. In the finale, when the left-hander got out cheaply, Marlon Samuels took the responsibility, and guided the side to a convincing win.

"We went into the World Cup not under any pressure. They cast us as favourites but we, as players, take it as one game at a time. It’s good to go into a tournament as favourites, but also better to live up to expectations and actually come out on top," Bravo
was quoted as saying by CMC.

The all-rounder, who was ruled out of the ongoing Champions League due to a lingering groin injury, returned home after playing a crucial part in West Indies’ big success.

"We always had that self-belief that we’re going to do well. We have a very good team and once our players click at the right time, there’s no stopping us," Bravo stated.

He added,  "It’s good to see all of us actually in one team, come and put our heads down and actually win a title for the West Indies," said Bravo in reference to team camaraderie among players during the tournament.”

“It’s long overdue. This format T20 suits most of us and it’s good that we can actually dominate in this format of the game."

In five World Cup matches, the right-hander scored 134 runs at an average of 33.50. He was due to represent his Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit, Chennai Super Kings, but the injury prevented him from doing so.
