Imran Khan conditionally supports military offensive in North Waziristan
Wednesday, October 17th, 2012 1:00:19 by Faisal FarooqTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that he was ready to perform as mediator between the government and Taliban as the latter consider him as an honest arbitrator.
Addressing a press conference, Imran Khan said military operation in FATA is not the solution of the issue rather it’s just a part of the solution.
The cricketer-turned-politician said he is neither against the US nor its slave, adding that 140,000 personnel of Pakistan army are busy in the war for last eight years. He said we have to come out of the US war.
If the government assures peace after North Waziristan operation, he will support this action, he added saying the war against terror could be handled in political ways.
Flanked by senior PTI leaders, Khan said that the military succeeded in its military operations but the politicians failed to deliver.
In his view, a political solution should be found to all the problems and talks should be held with those militants who believed in the Constitution of Pakistan.
Khan added that action could be taken against those who didn’t accept the Constitution.
“Prime Minister and President should tell solution to war against terrorism,” he added.
Imran Khan said that The Tehreek-e-Taliban accepted responsibility for an attack on Malala Yousafzai and the PTI condemned it.
He noted, “There was a need to investigate the motivations of various Taliban factions operating in the country and the decision to carry out a military operation in Waziristan in 2004 and the Lal Masjid episode were the main reason behind the violence across the country.”
He further said, “In the guise of the Taliban, there are several criminal gangs who didn’t even spare PTI workers by demanding extortion money.”
