Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step justifies  its 2012 performance

Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is enjoying a terrific season with as many as 47 victories in the current season.

The team wraps up a perfect season after securing first position at the UCI Road World Championships Team Time Trial event after its splendid performance.

The Belgian team rode under the reliable leadership of Tom Boonen in Netherlands and occupied the top spot at the trading time trial event.

“We didn’t want to finish with six guys, but everybody had a good day and we made it to the finish.” (“Yeah, we tried to drop him but we couldn’t,” Boonen briefed.

He was accompanied by Sylvain Chavanel, Tony Martin, Niki Terpstra, Kristof Vandewalle and Peter Velits during the 53.2 kilometre event.

Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step managed to finish the race in a total time of 1:03:17.17 and overcame Team BMC with a margin of 0:00:03.23.

Team Orica-GreenEdge, Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Team Rabobank, Team Movistar, Team Katusha, Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team Sky Procycling and Team Garmin-Sharp claimed the next seven spots in the respective order.

Team Manager Patrick Lefevere hired several cyclists for the 2012 season which helped the team improving its performance in the season.

Tony Martin was amongst the new signings in the season and he proved really helpful for the team after his various top performances in the season.

“I think that on paper we had the strongest six riders but our job then was to come together as a team and find a good rhythm,” Martin said.

“The strongest always should think of the weakest and the weakest should think of the strongest. It’s not about showing you are the strongest or the best rider”.

“At the end, we really made a good job and fought together as a team, which was the key to success today”.

The Belgian side currently holds the fourth overall position after the UCI World Tour teams ranking with a total number of 1066 UCI points to its credit.

Tom Boonen (410 points), Niki Terpstra (160 points), Sylvain Chavanel (113 points), Michal Kwiatkowski (108 points) and Levi Leipheimer (75 points) helped the team with major contributions all through the season.

Team Sky is leading the category with 1636 points with Team Liquigas-Cannondale (1178 points) and Team Katusha (1173 points) holding the second and the third positions respectively.
