KKR were under pressure: Sunil Narine
Thursday, October 18th, 2012 2:05:50 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAfter Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was knocked out of the ongoing T20 Champions League, off-spinner Sunil Narine admitted that his IPL team was under tremendous amount of pressure.
The Knight Riders were desperately in hunt of a win after losing first two group-stage matches. But their crucial encounter against Perth Scorchers was called off due to rain. As a result, the Kolkata-based outfit was knocked out of the tournament.
"I think there is always pressure once you win a tournament and you go to the next tournament. We were hoping to win this game and somehow qualify. But the guys are still keen on playing their last game. So hopefully, we can give a good performance," said
Narine.
While his team faced a few terrible defeats, Narine’s own performance remained up to the mark. In his three appearances for the side, the mystery off-spinner scalped five wickets.
However, he was no happy with his personal good show, saying that he would have been happy to be an average performer in a winning team, rather being very good in a losing cause.
"It has been pretty decent for me but not good for the team. So, even though I am performing well, the team is more important. So, it would have been better if the team did well and my performance was iffy; then there would have been a lot more success on
this tour," he said.
Narine’s mantra of success is quite different from many others. Taking about his game, the 24-year-old, who was declared ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ revealed that he likes to work on his strengths instead of looking for weaknesses in the opposing side.
"I don’t think too much about the batsman. I only think about my game and what I am capable of doing so hopefully I can continue performing," Narine said.
When asked about the difference between the Sub-continent wickets and the pitches in South Africa, he shared, "It all depends on the speed and the variation you have. In the sub-continent you get a lot of more a lot more spin; you could loop, you could bowl
a little faster. But in the South African conditions you have to bowl more line and length balls.."
