Slovakian beauty Daniela Hantuchova progresses into pre-quarters at BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open – Tennis News
Former world number five, Daniela Hantuchova from Slovakia, got the better of the Dutch contender, Arantxa Rus, in a three-set thriller at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open 2012, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International-level tournament held in
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
The Slovakian star made a drastic entry at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open. However, she found her rhythm in the second set and eventually carved out the victory in one hour and 50 minutes.
Hantuchova commented in a courtside interview after conquering the Dutchwoman:
"I made it a little bit difficult for myself today, but I’m happy with the way I kept fighting and eventually turned it around. I was making way too many errors at the beginning, rushing and going for winners I shouldn’t really have gone for. Once I found
my rhythm in the second set, I was slowly getting on top of her and I did well to win that game at 4-4. In the third set I was playing my best tennis finally and really starting to dominate."
Ranked 38th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Hantuchova was broken four times. However, she cashed six out of nine break chances and formulated a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. She also capitalised on 13 double faults her rival spilled and smashed four aces
to dominate.
The Slovakian veteran will square off against the Belgian qualifier, Kirsten Flipkens, in the second round.
Hantuchova commented about her next match-up:
"She played very well last week and also in Québec City before that. I think indoors suits her game – she has got very good hands and is very talented – and it’s going to be a very good test that I’m looking forward to."
