Army violating human rights in Balochistan; claims Altaf Hussain

In what appeared to be direct and dangerous blames, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said that military establishment was involved in killing people in Balochistan.

While speaking to a private TV channel, the MQM leader also claimed that some elements within establishment backs violence in Karachi, the economic hub of the country.

He noted, “Parliament cannot pass a bill without the military and establishment’s agreement. Why do we lie to ourselves?”

He also questioned, “This government cannot make an amendment without agreeing with the military establishment. The government issued a notice that the Inter-Services Intelligence would be under the control of the interior ministry. It had to withdraw it within 12 hours. Is that the government’s control?”

Altaf Hussain further said that he wasn’t criticizing the army but it wasn’t working properly, adding that security forces haven’t won a single war up till now. In his view the people should accept the reality that their country is going to sink if steps are not taken to prevent this.

Expressing reservations over state of security in Karachi and Balochistan, he blamed the incompetence of the law enforcement agencies to over the situation.

He opined, “If the Frontier Corps releases 10 of their (the Baloch) people, if the Baloch also show some flexibility. It is not the Baloch people’s fault. If someone is related to those who are sitting on the mountains, they are detained.”

Altaf Hussain further said that he hadn’t seen any action of the Supreme Court against the military establishment which is killing people in the province.

He also claimed that the people in the largest city were being killed because criminal people have support of some elements within the security forces.

Commenting on militancy, the MQM chief said that the Taliban mindset is totally against the basic principles and teachings of Islam, urging educated lot of the country to aware the people in this regard.

In his view, the people will have to change the mindset of those extremist if they want to see the country progressing.
