Whoever was on the other end, it seems they had some good news for Katie Holmes. The actress could not stop smiling as she clicked along busy New York City streets on Saturday with her mobile phone glued to her ear.

The 33-year-old Batman Begins star looked comfortably casual in a short denim skirt and sweater, paired with black tights and kitten heels. Katie was spotted making a quick stop at Whole Foods for some groceries while heading back to her apartment.

Earlier in the day, she attended rehearsals for her upcoming Broadway play Dead Accounts. The play tells the story of a brother, a sister, and a surprise reunion that turns their family upside down.

The show is scheduled to start previews on November 3.Katie’s outing comes amid reports ex-husband Tom Cruise hasn’t seen their daughter Suri in nearly 10 weeks. The actor’s long-term lawyer and close friend Bert Fields told MailOnline that Cruise was very
much ‘missing’ his little girl – and planned to see her as soon as possible. He stressed: ‘Tom is a loving, caring father. Suri is a vital part of his life and always will be.’

Mr Fields added: ‘Of course he’ll be seeing her soon.  He’s in England finishing one picture and preparing another.’ He said the star was ‘absolutely’ looking forward to being reunited with his daughter, insisting: ‘He misses her.’

Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise – her husband of five years – in June 2012. The split was finalized in August 2012.Suri and Tom were last spotted together enjoying a Disney World holiday on August 2.

While the actor has been busy filming, the tot has stayed in New York, having recently started her school life as a student at The Avenues, an exclusive private school in the city’s Chelsea neighbourhood. Court papers suggest that the couple’s relationship
was doomed six months prior to the announcement that they were separating.

According to the documents obtained exclusively by the National Enquirer, their marriage had ‘broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding’.
