Humaima Malick wins South Asia Rising Star Film Award
Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 3:58:34 by Faisal FarooqPakistani film actor Humaima Malick won the South Asia Rising Star Film Award in the Best Lead Actress category for her role in the movie Bol.
Humaima was contesting against Indian actors Tanishtha Chatterjee, Parineeta Chopra, Rasike Dugal and Preeti Desai in the category. She was the only Pakistani to be nominated in the category.
Overwhelmed with the achievement, Humaima said, “I had no idea this role would earn so much recognition. It is an amazing honour to receive another award in a foreign land for a movie that is very close to my heart. I owe the entire team of Bol, Shoaib Mansoor and my family for this achievement.”
Humaima has also been nominated in the best actor category at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, competing against India’s Vidya Balan.
The ceremony was followed by the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF), which is in its 9th year as of 2012.
Humaima has already received much acclaim and won accolades for her moving performance in Bol, at the Lux Style Award and London Asian Film Festival.
Humaima’s uncanny and often tear-jerking portrayal of Zainab touched the hearts of millions both in the national and international community. It solidified her transition from a model to a dedicated actress with serious acting chops.
Not many could have pulled off a role which required her to go a natural alongside other well known female actresses, yet she outshone them all.
