Swiss star, Stanislas Wawrinka, was happy for the support he received after losing his opening match at the Swiss Indoors 2012, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 Series even held in his home town. He also praised the organisation
for exceptional management at the event.
The fourth seed, Wawrinka suffered a shocking first round exit against the former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko. He exchanged two breaks of serve and took the opening set to a tie-breaker. Regardless of trailing in it, the local star held his composure
and swiped his entire serves in the following set without encountering any trouble. However, Wawrinka was again underplayed in the tie-breaker and consequently suffered a 6-7(7), 6-7(3) loss in two hours and 13 minutes.
The Swiss, who captured gold medal in the doubles event with Roger Federer in the Beijing Olympics four years ago, stated in a social networking site:
“76 76 lost tough match! Davydenko match deserves! He played very well!”
The 27-year-old smashes seven aces and spilled fewer double faults. However, he clobbered a lower first serve share of 49 per cent as compared to his rival’s 65 per cent and availed only 33 out of 47 points on it. Wawrinka dusted away five out of seven breakpoints
he came across but cashed two out of 11 break chances to drag sets to tie-breaker.
Wawrinka was coming off third round showing at the Shanghai Rolex Masters (lost to his top seeded compatriot, Roger Federer). He also made a fourth round showing at the US Open and secured semi-final berth at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Ranked 17th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Wawrinka also praised the event management for the brilliant organisation and committed him of coming back at this indoor hard court event next season. Wawrinka further stated:
“Great organisation in Basel! People are always so nice with me! Thanks so much!!! See you next year….!”
The Swiss star failed to capture a title this circuit and is eyeing to improve his form for the upcoming season.
