Many tennis stars advanced into the third round at the BNP Paribas Masters, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event held in Paris, France. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych were among the seeds who advanced into the round of 16
on Tuesday.
Local number one and crowd favourite, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, stole the show after outclassing his compatriot, Julien Benneteau, in a three-set thriller. He notched up a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2) victory in two hours and 24 minutes to improved to a 5-3 lifetime in the
FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series against the 30-year-old.
The Jubilant French was quoted in a courtside interview after conquering his opponent:
“There was a lot of tension, a lot of intensity, a very complicated first round for me. I fought until the end. I hung in there, and I’m happy for the way I pulled it out because it was not easy.”
Seeded fifth in this event, Tomas Berdych from Czech Republic also earned the fame. He triumphed over the Italian star, Andreas Seppi, in straight sets at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. The Czech star dropped his serve once but cashed three out of nine
break chances to formulate a 7-6(6), 6-2 success.
The Asian number one, Kei Nishikori, dominated against the local wild card entrant, Benoit Paire, to advance. He recorded a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory against the world number 44 in one hour and 35 minutes.
Ranked 17th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Wawrinka maintained his winning record against the Argentinean challenger, Carlos Berlocq and secured a spot in the third round. He swiped his entire serves with conviction and
after breaking his rival’s serve four times, the Swiss manipulated a 6-3, 6-2 score line.
