Information Minister Kaira opposes court’s interference in CNG issue
Friday, November 2nd, 2012 1:35:20 by Faisal FarooqOpposing the court’s interference in CNG prices issue, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said CNG pricing and Kala Bagh dam are public related matters which should be decided in the parliament.
The minister while speaking to the media following a Conference on Disaster Management of SAARC countries warmed the government would also complicate these issues if the courts continued to meddle in such matters.
Referring to the substantial cut in CNG prices by the apex court, the reporters said it is the court that eventually got the CNG prices slashed and asked the minister as to why the government failed to do so.
In reply to this, the minister said that the matters in question should be decided in the parliament instead of courts.
The judiciary should also show restraint on issues of political nature and as a nation we should also try not to drag it in to matters of political issues, he said.
The minister said he was giving a final advice to the former ISI chief Lt.Gen (retd) Hamid Gul to watch his tone and tenor. “Whatever you (Gul) did during service and what you are doing now is clearly in public view,” he added
In his view, the curt should take notice of General Hameed Gul’s statement in which he admitted his role in the making of IJI. The IJI was formed to block PPP from formation of government, he added.
The Information Minister said there is almost no power load shedding in the country. He said Water and Power Ministry is working on a program to further improve the bill collection system.
Earlier on Thursday, the apex court ordered that during the 14-day adjournment of the case, CNG prices will remain unchanged.
