Samsung posts record profit after launching tablet and Galaxy range
Monday, November 5th, 2012 7:45:27 by Farasat AliSamsung tablets have helped the company in recording a massive profit in the third quarter of the year. However, these stats could possibly change with the incursion of mini tablet in the market
offered by technology giants, Apple, named iPad Mini.
While the Korean company’s last quarter sales soared during the start of the year, Apple lost the nine percent of their market value (15 compared to the second quarter of 2011), yet half of all tablets sold in the world in
last quarter carried an apple symbol.
It was another great quarter for this device when compared to the previous year, as sales rose 49.5%, when the computers market dropped down. Regarding the second quarter, the increase was only 6.7%, perhaps
because consumers expected renewal models by Apple, and it finally happened this month.
In absolute numbers, Apple sold 14 million tablets (11.1 in the same quarter last year, Samsung, 5.1 (1.2); Amazon, 2.5, Asus, 2 (0.7), Lenovo, 0.4 (0.2), while
the rest of the manufacturers sold 3.3 million compared to 5.4 million tablets a year ago.
The sales chart indicates that sales had become concentrated in a few brands after a total of 27.8 million units were placed by the manufacturers.
Amazon had not yet released a tablet in the third quarter of 2011, so it cannot be compared with the previous quarter, for which they have won four percentage points, according to IDC.
Sharp, on the other hand, have excelled more than Asus in less than a year (243%), only comparable to Samsung (325%) whose sales received a massive hike due to the success of Nexus 7, manufactured with collaboration by Google.
