Committee forms to review ban on YouTube: Rehman Malik
Friday, November 9th, 2012 10:10:12 by Web DeskFederal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Thursday announced that a committee has been formed to review the ban on video sharing website YouTube.
The minister said that the committee will first ask for software to help monitor controversial content being uploaded on the website.
Earlier on Tuesday, Malik had tweeted saying that he will try his best remove the YouTube ban, even though the issue does not fall under the purview of his ministry.
Malik, speaking to the media, said that the sale of Subscriber Identity Module (SIMs) from shops will be stopped from the first of December and that all new SIMs will be dispatched by the respective mobile phone companies to the addresses mentioned on the National Identity Cards (NICs).
He further urged existing cell phone users to get their SIMs registered by November 30 and also asked the mobile companies to open up new offices for verification of SIMs.
The minister assured that strict security measures will be taken to avoid any untoward incident during the month of Muharram.
Chairing a meeting on the law and order situation, Malik said that the government has received threats of terrorism during Muharram and steps will be taken to tackle them.
He added that helicopters and CCTV cameras will be used for surveillance of Muharram processions, and additional contingents of police will be deployed outside mosques and Imambargahs.
Responding to a question, Rehman Malik said some elements want to provoke sectarianism but the people should stand united to foil their evil designs.
