Pakistan versus India World Cup Semi-Final match was fixed: Report
Saturday, November 10th, 2012 3:11:48 by Web DeskThe Pakistan versus India World Cup semi-final in Mohali on March 30, 2011 may just have been the most keenly countered game of cricket ever played. However, after almost two years an investigative journalist claimed it was a fixed game.
Ed Hawkins, an investigative sports journalist has claimed that semi final match between Pakistan and India cricket teams in World Cup 2011 was pre-fixed.
He leveled these allegations in his upcoming book Bookie gambler fixer spy: a journey to the corrupt heart of cricket’s underworld by Ed Hawkins, to be published by Bloomsbury on November 15.
He had spent months investigating corruption in cricket, saying the day when significant match was being played he received a tweet from an Indian bookmaker called Parthiv, a contact he had established during his investigations.
He noted, “Bookie update… India will bat first and score over 260, 3 wickets fall within the first 15 overs, Pak will cruise to 100, then lose 2 quick wickets, at 150 they will be 5 down and crumble and lose by a margin of over 20 runs.”
A report published in Daily Mail quoted excerpts of the book saying, “Chezza, I called out. I think you’d better have a look at this. A bookie has messaged me. He’s sent me a script of what is going to happen.”
According to it, Prathiv messaged the journalist twice and both times the messages came true making Ed really surprised.
It added, “The information for Pakistan’s innings was more thorough… ‘Pak will cruise to 100, then lose 2 quick wickets, at 150 they will be 5 down and crumble and lose by a margin of over 20 runs’.
The author was of the opinion that “Had this been received from anyone other than an Indian bookmaker it would be considered a wild guess.” But involvement of an Indian bookmaker made this information really authentic.”
It seems that cricket in Pakistan and India is likely to face another tough round of allegations, proceedings and media bombardment.
