Arsenal slay their arch-rivals Tottenham – Football News

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal made an epic comeback from a goal down to outclass Spurs at the Emirates Stadium. They nudged up a 5-2 victory against local rivals and secured sixth spot at the Barclays English Premier League rankings.

There was a sense of déjà vu at the Emirates Stadium as after Spurs received a red card, Gunners bounced from a goal down to carve out the victory.

Former arsenal star, Emanuel Adebayor scored the opening goal for Andre Villas-Boas side. However, he received a red card after 17 minutes from start of the match after which Gunners turned the tables on Tottenham.

Per Mertesacker fired his first goal for Arsenal in the 24^th minutes and levelled the scores. Three minutes to stoppage time of the opening half, Lukas Podolski fired a stunning goal and took Gunners 2-1 up. In the stoppage time of the first half, Olivier Giroud maintained his scoring form and led his side take an unassailable 3-1 lead.

Wenger’s side kept momentum rolling in the second half. 15 minutes after start of the other half, Santi Cazorla fired the fourth goal into the net after receiving a perfect pass from Podolski.

The 10-man Villas-Boas side managed to lower trail in the 70^th minute after Gareth Bale netted the ball from outside the box. However, Theo Walcott spiced Gunners’ victory further after smashing the fifth goal for Arsenal in the 88^th minute.

The victory gave confidence boost to Arsenal. Wenger praised his side in an interview to the Arsenal Player:

“We have shown quality, spirit and a lot of movement, and that is what we want from our team. The result will help to rebuild belief completely again. There is something special in this team and I am happy that will come out when they play with complete confidence.”
