Third group is involved in militant activities; says Rehman Malik
Monday, November 19th, 2012 11:41:02 by Web DeskInterior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday said that terrorist activities are being carried out in Karachi and Quetta under a planned campaign, adding that there is a third group involved in the recent bomb blast.
Speaking to media, the minister said there are terror threats till Muharram 10. Moreover, he said that there was information that any Imambargah could be attacked to which he had directed all provincial chief secretaries to ensure stoppage of motorcycles half kilometer and cars one kilometer away from Imambargahs.
Malik said that party leadership granted him clearance to take all necessary measures for the security of masses. He said there is no sectarian violence in Karachi, claiming that there is a third group involved in Karachi bomb explosion.
The federal minister said that they have reached close to the culprits involved in Karachi blast that took place previous night in Abbas Town area, adding that a major breakthrough in this regard is expected in few days. He said that all unregistered cellular sims will be blocked after November 30.
Earlier on Sunday, a bomb went off near an Imambargah in Abbas Town locality of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, killing at least three people and injured over a dozen others.
The assailant succeeded to park an explosives-laden motorcycle near the Imambargah where a Muharram Majlis was to be held. The bomb, police said, was detonated by a remote-control device.
Besides police and Rangers were also posted at the place, the blast near the Masjid-o-Imambargah Mohammad-i-Mustafa could not be prevented.
A spokesman for the Rangers said five Rangers personnel were among the wounded and one of them was in serious condition in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The others were taken to the Rangers hospital. The explosion took place minutes before the Majlis was to begin. But, despite the blast, the Majlis was held as scheduled.
The blast ripped through a number of shops, dislodged an electric pole and damaged a transformer, plunging the entire area into darkness, residents said. A truck carrying bakery products was also damaged.
