Saeed Ajmal eagerly looking forward to India tour
Monday, November 19th, 2012 6:23:32 by Rana Nasir GhafoorSaeed Ajmal, arguably the best off-spinner in the modern-day cricket, is eagerly looking forward to Pakistan’s tour to India next month. Ajmal has played on the Indian soil only once so far: the 2011 World Cup semi-final between the traditional rivals.
The Green Shirts are due to visit India for a limited-over series. Ajmal, who has recently been given permission to play Big Bash League in Australia, cannot wait to roll his arm against the arch-rivals.
“I started my international career late and I have got a chance to play just one match against India in their own backyard the 2011 World Cup semi final at Mohali,” Ajmal said.
“That is why I am eagerly looking forward to this tour as it will be a challenge bowling to the Indian batsmen in their own backyard,” he said.
The Faisalabad-born spinner started his international career at the age of 31, and soon after his debut, he became a crucial part of the side. Pakistan last toured India in 2007, when Ajmal was among the probable players. But he could not earn a place for any format of the game.
“I was disappointed than because every cricketer wants to play a proper series in India and prove his worth.I didn’t get a chance to play a full series in India because of the suspension of bilateral relations since 2007 but now finally I am getting my chance and it is exciting for me,” he added.
His stats in all three versions of the sport are mighty impressive. So far in his career, the mysterious spinner has taken 122 wickets in only 23 Test matches. He has also 109 ODI and 69 T20 wickets to his name. Ajmal is currently the highest wicket-taker in the shortest version of the game.
Currently sitting on top of the ICC ODI rankings, Ajmal is working really hard ahead of the big battle. On his preparation for the big clash, he uttered: “I am training hard although I missed some matches of the President’s Trophy due to illness for which doctor had advised me rest.”
“And the pitches also this time are more suited for pace bowlers in the tournament. But I am still working hard on preparing for the Indian tour.”
