Need for Speed film’s plot and lead characters revealed
Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 4:53:56 by Muhammad Qasim HassanThe fans of the Need for Speed franchise have been anxiously waiting for details on the film adaptation that was announced earlier this year.
A report by Variety turns out to be just what the fans had been waiting for, as it reveals the plot of the film, while also revealing the name of the actors who will be playing the lead role.
According to the report, the upcoming Need for Speed film will stay true to the actual spirit of the adrenaline-pumping racing video game, though the story will also involve murder and vengeance, something that is bound to add a fair amount of thrill to a film that is expected to be already full of it.
Need for Speed will follow an underground race-car driver, played by Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, who modifies cars in his garage to make them even faster for racing.
Something always goes wrong in such situations and that is exactly what happens with the character Paul is playing. His friend dies during a race and the blame for this murder goes to none other than man who seemed more than satisfied with his job and life, thus getting sent to prison.
Upon getting released, he begins his hunt for the man who actually killed his friend and also framed him for it.
Paul will not be the only leading man in the film, with the Captain America star Dominic Cooper to co-star opposite of him.
The English actor is going to be playing the role of an ex-NASCAR driver who also enters a business of rebuilding and modifying cars.
With both the lead characters involved in the car businesses, there is no doubt that the film will be filled with plenty of powerful and visually stunning cars.
The Need for Speed movie adaptation is being directed by Act of Valor director Scott Waugh, while the script has been written by George Gatins, who had teamed up with John Gatins to develop the original story. Electronic Arts’ Patrick O’Brien will take on the duties of the producer with Mark Sourian and Gatins.
Film adaptations of video games have hardly proven to be a good move in the past, with more than one renowned franchise ending up as a huge disappointment on big screen. One of the few exceptions to this was the Mortal Kombat film, which actually managed to stay close to the true spirit of the game.
However, films such as Prince of Persia and Tekken have made film-lovers cautious of expecting too much of film adaptations.
This is not entirely a bad thing, as the makers of the Need for Speed franchise will not have to be worried about meeting high expectations.
