TTP claims responsibility of Karachi and Rawalpindi blasts
Thursday, November 22nd, 2012 11:33:28 by Web DeskClaiming responsibility of brutal assaults, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has said that it was responsible for the blasts carried out a day earlier near Imambargahs in Karachi and Rawalpindi.
According to a private TV channel, TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan while giving details of the attacks said that the organization had carried out a suicide blast in Rawalpindi whereas the twin explosions in Karachi were planted bombs.
He noted, “We carried out the attacks (on Wednesday) in Rawalpindi and Karachi because the Shiite community is engaged in defiling the Prophet (PBUH).” The statement came after the TTP had claimed responsibility for two earlier blasts on the same day in Bannu and Shangla areas, bringing the tally of cities targeted on Wednesday to four.
According to another report, the banned TTP asked India to hand over Ajmal Kasab’s body to them, criticizing Pakistan for not demanding his body. It is vital to mention here that terrorists struck two Imambargahs in Karachi and Rawalpindi at will on Wednesday, killing at least 22 people in their destructive trail.
The horrifying and tragic incidents came as the government prepares to host the D8 summit in Islamabad Thursday to be attended by high-profile dignitaries from across the Muslim world, leaving the authorities scrambling over the country’s security situation ahead of the crucial moot.
The bombings on the two Imambargahs were not the only violence shaming the government’s claims, as three security officials and four policemen were among nine people killed in terror attacks in Quetta and Bannu, respectively.
The Rawalpindi blast took place at around 11:30pm outside Qasre Shabbir imam bargah in the city’s Dhok Syeddan area on Misriyal Road, when a large number of Shiite mourners had gathered for a Muharram congregation.
The explosion left at least 20 people dead and injured more than 46. Reports said seven hand grenades had been recovered from the site as well. Earlier on Wednesday, two people were killed and sixteen, including journalists and security personnel, injured in twin blasts that hit Karachi’s Orangi Town.
