Senior journalist and Geo News’ anchor Hamid Mir escapes bomb attack
Monday, November 26th, 2012 2:20:48 by Faisal FarooqThe editor of a Pakistani news channel Geo TV, Hamid Mir, escaped narrowly on Monday when a bomb kept beneath his car was diffused by the bomb disposal squad.
According to Geo News, the explosive was planted inside Mir’s vehicle and it has been defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
According to initial reports, Hamid Mir went to the nearby market in his car and after returning home, driver spotted a suspicious bag under his car. The bomb disposal squad was immediately called in to remove the bag after which it was revealed that the bag contained half kilograms of explosive material that was diffused by the squad.
Hamir Mir while talking to the television said that the driver of his neighbors pointed out the presence of a suspected black bag inside his vehicle. He said that he called the BDS to defuse the bomb.
The BDS said that about 1/2 kilograms explosive was used in making of the bomb. “We have also recovered ball bearings, batteries and detonators from the bag.” The material included a battery, a 35 no. detonator and ball bearings, it added.
Hamid Mir is also a news anchor, terrorism expert, and security analyst who regularly participates in international conferences.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has strongly condemned the recovery of explosive material from the vehicle of eminent anchor person Hamid Mir.
Talking to the media persons at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad today‚ he assured that full security will be provided to the journalists. He said the country is facing the acts of terrorism and journalists have also been the victim of them. We denounce this extremist mindset.
