England not getting carried away by Mumbai triumph

England captain Alastair Cook and aggressive batsman Kevin Pietersen believe the team will not be complacent after an easy triumph over India in the second Test at Mumbai.

The Englishmen were tip-toe after an embarrassing 9-wicket loss in the opening game. The pressure was enormous on the tourists, but they did a very good job. Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar, in particular, performed magnificently and humiliated the home side.

In the second innings of the game, the Men in Blue could only score 142 runs, as the English spinners demonstrated an excellent show. There are still a couple of games left in the series, and the English players are not ready to be complacent.

“Any win in India is a huge win. I played 18 one day games and won one game. I have won more Test matches than one day games in India. Any Test victory or any victory in India is huge,” said Pietersen whose record 206-run partnership with Cook (122) provided the platform for the massive win.
“But we are not going to get ahead of us, that is for sure. Last week we got hammered and this week we turned it around,” he added.

Cook is also confident that his teammates would not get carried away. He described that it was an important win for the side, adding that the guys will need to work even harder to be on top in the remaining two matches.

“We have set the series out really well. We have got two games to go now and it is level. It is a really good performance. Like Kev said, we are not getting too carried away. We are going to enjoy tonight,” he said.

“Enjoy the victory and we need to, we have got a lot of back to back test matches in India, so we need to rest up well. And make sure when we get to Kolkata, we train with same purpose and intense to win game there,” he added.

The third contest is scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, starting from Wednesday, December 05, 2012.
