Karachi blast claims one live, injures four
Monday, November 26th, 2012 12:35:22 by Web DeskAt least one person has been killed and four sustained injuries in a blast that took place in Mohabbat Nagar area near Sheesh Mahal, Karachi.
According to initial details, the blast took place in a shop where cement blocks were made but the nature of the blast is not known as yet.
Police and Rangers have reached the area and are collecting evidence from the site. The injured were taken to a local hospital and are reportedly in critical condition. Bomb Disposal Squad has been called in and will sweep the area for other planted explosives.
An eyewitness said that the bomb explosion injured three workers working in block factory adding that the bang of the blast was heard far across the vicinity. Heavy contingents of police and rangers have reached the spot, cordoning off the area.
According to SSP Farooq Awan, 1.5KG explosives were used in the blast. He confirmed that the squad had gathered the pieces of cell phone, providing evidence that the terrorists used mobile phone to carry out the blast. According to police, the device was placed in a cement bag.
Body of dead and injured persons has been rushed to nearby hospital in critical condition, rescue sources said. The blast created havoc in the area and the local residents came out of their homes.
Earlier on Monday, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced that a terror bid in Karachi was foiled yesterday, adding that high explosives were used to make the bomb. He said that unity amongst the nation has played an important role to counter terrorism.
While talking to media in Islamabad, the interior minister said that government may grant amnesty to those militants who will lay down their weapons. He said that order has been issued to close multiple mobile phone SIMs registered over same ID.
