TTP claims responsibility for attempt to attack Hamid Mir: Report
Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 1:00:53 by Web DeskTehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attempt to attack senior journalist and anchor person for Geo News Hamid Mir.
According to Dawn News, TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan while speaking to them claimed responsibility for the attempt to attack Hamid Mir a day earlier. He also warned of more attacks on anyone pursuing the secular agenda.
The report noted, “Ehsan said that Hamid Mir was following a secular agenda and was helping those who were working against the principles of Islam adding that their organisation would continue to target all those who were becoming party to propagation against jihad.”
The spokesman of the Pakistani Taliban further also claimed that those targeting the Taliban would be targeted with explosives.
Hamid Mir, a senior Geo TV anchor was returning to his house in the capital on Monday when a bomb was apparently planted while he stopped at a market for a few minutes. The explosive device in a metal box was found stuck under the front passenger seat of Hamid Mir’s car, city police chief Bani Amin said.
The bomb disposal squad was immediately called, who successfully defused the bomb containing half a kilogram of explosive material.
Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Monday visited the residence of senior journalist and TV anchor Hamid Mir in Islamabad and vowed to provide him effective and elaborate security.
“An inquiry has been ordered and a reward of Rs 50 million is announced for providing any clues regarding the attack on Hamid Mir,” said Malik. He also announced to constitute a fact-finding committee, including a magistrate, police officials and two journalists, which will probe the incident.
