MS Dhoni gets support from Harbhajan Singh
Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 7:16:14 by Rana Nasir GhafoorMahendra Singh Dhoni is under serious criticism following India’s poor show in the second Test against England, but Harbhajan Singh is not ready to leave his skipper alone. Putting his weight behind the World Cup-winning captain, the off-spinner said that
one should not judge Dhoni on the basis of just one bad performance.
After securing a comfortable 9-wicket victory in the opening game, the Men in Blue lost their direction, and failed to stop England from cruising to an easy 10-wicket success. On Mumbai’s spinning track, the Indian side was unable to tackle Alastair Cook
and Kevin Pietersen, despite the presence of three specialist spinners.
The Indian batting line-up also failed awfully, and could get only 142 runs in the second innings. Overall, it was a below par effort by the home side, and Dhoni is facing the fire now. Harbhajan, however, believes that those who are passing judgments on
Dhoni should not forget his contributions in making India the World Champions.
"Winning and losing is a part of the game and players and captain like Dhoni, should not be criticised for just losing a single game," Harbhajan said.
"We should not forget that Dhoni is the same captain who won us the first World Cup after 1983 triumph. He is one of the best rated captains in the country. By losing just a single match, one should not raise questions at his ability," the tweaker shared.
The 31-year-old sees no reason to worry. Showing full faith in his side, the offie claimed that Team India would bounce back the third Test at Eden Gardens. Referring to India’s prior victories over England, he uttered:
"People should not forget that we have beaten England in their home on many occasions. They should not criticise players and captain like this. We will perform better at Kolkata and will win there."
On Sachin Tendulkar’s poor run with the bat, he added, "My wish is that he should keep playing for the country. His presence gives an edge to the team. Kolkata has always remained one of Sachin’s favourite venues and I am hopeful that he will silence his
critics with a brilliant knock there."
