Rehman Malik announces Rs 200 million for information on TTP Spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan
Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 1:45:45 by Faisal FarooqInterior Minister Rehman Malik has said anyone providing information on the whereabouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan would be awarded rupees 200 million.
Speaking to media representatives on Tuesday, the minister said Ehsan was working for foreign elements and vowed to soon reveal all on the TTP spokesman. The minister added that the TTP was a divided organisation and now constituted of various groups, including the Waliur Rehman faction, the Hakimullah Mehsud group and other small factions.
Malik moreover questioned as to what kind of shariah the TTP spokesman wanted to enforce in the country which legitimised the killings of innocent civilians and sanctioned suicide bombings.
He said “terrorists” were defaming the religion and shariah for money, adding that, the government had struck a peace agreement with the Taliban in Swat which the latter had themselves violated.
Malik added that if “terrorists and miscreants” surrendered and gave up their weapons, the government could consider giving them amnesty. He noted, “If proscribed organisations agree to cooperate with the government and give up terrorism, they will be removed from the list of banned organizations.”
He invited all banned organisations, including the TTP for talks and said it was time for Hakimullah Mehsud to apologise to the nation. Malik said it was an opportunity for Mehsud to stop killing of innocent people and live a peaceful life.
He observed, “Hakimullah don’t hide in one bunker or another. Today, I announce a general amnesty for you if you stop killing innocent people. The enemies you are working for will kill you too, one day.”
He said the government had evidence that the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) organisation was involved in targeted killings and other acts of terror during this year’s Muharram processions.
One LJ activist, Attaullah, was arrested by law-enforcement agencies in Karachi on Saturday and a large quantity of explosives were seized from him. “This explosive material was to be used for killing people in Ashura processions. Attaullah is an active member of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and he received military training in Miramshah in 2008,” he added.
