Adam Hansen of Team Lotto Belisol is all set to ride all the three Grand Tours in the 2013 season, after completing the trio in the current season.
Completing all the three World Tours definitely requires a lot of mental as well as physical strength, as 21 days of racing with almost 3000 kilometres of cycling, drains one out but the Australian made it possible.
“It felt like a test, to see what is possible and if the body could hold up through it all, I wanted to do this for myself, just to see,” Hansen told Cyclingnews.
The cyclist broke his collarbone during the three-week Italian race, Giro d’Italia along with a disastrous crash at the Vuelta a Espana, really made things more difficult for him.
However, the courageous managed to complete his lifelong dream by appearing at all the three World Tour events of the season.
When asked about his favourite World Tour race, Hansen was certainly confused as he believe all the events have their own specialities and it is pretty difficult to pick a best one.
“They were all different entirely. The Giro is a beautiful race with the passion of the fans and Italy itself, “he says.
“The Tour is like getting down to business, where you feel the pressure more”.
“Then the Vuelta, which is normally my favourite of the 3G’s, because it is a more relaxed and opportunistic race, where guys have a chance for breakaways that stay away until the end. But this year it wasn’t like that”.
The 31-year-old started his professional pursuit with T-Mobile Team in 2007 and served the American outfit with his services through 2010.
He accepted an offer from Team Omega Pharma in 2011 and is all set to spend his third consecutive season with the side, now known as Team Lotto-Belisol.
The Professional Continental team is looking ahead towards the next level, and has already applied for the World Tour status.
The final decision on the team’s licence is yet to be made by UCI as it has to pick three teams out of Team Argos-Shimano, Team Lotto Belisol, Team FDJ, Team Europcar and Team Saxo-Tinkoff to finalise the World Tour spot.
