NA Public Accounts Committee seeks reply from Registrar Supreme Court over audit report
Monday, December 3rd, 2012 10:16:55 by Web DeskNational Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has issued notice to registrar Supreme Court (SC) to appear before it on December, 14 to explain about audit objections.
The decision to send the notice was taken in PAC meeting held on October, 11. The notice has been issued after soliciting opinion of legal experts including former presidents of Supreme Court Bar Association Yasin Azad, Justice (r) Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice (r) Tariq Mehmood.
Opinion was also sought from law ministry and all were unanimous in their plea that PAC was competent to review audit observations in respect of accounts of SC. Committee unanimously decided to summon registrar SC.
It may be recalled that during the tenure of former chairman PAC Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan letter was written to SC to appear before the committee in connection with financial natters but the SC had taken the plea that it was verdict of apex court full bench that courts expenses are incurred out of consolidated funds rather than public funds therefore, PAC is not authorized to review its accounts.
It may be mentioned that parliament accords approval to both the funds including public and consolidated.
Despite acute desire of its chairman PAC website is not being completed and the bureaucracy is major irritant on the way to its taking final shape.
Reports quoting sources said if bureaucratic bottlenecks are removed then NA speaker will inaugurate this website soon.
