Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif wins World Snooker Championship
Monday, December 3rd, 2012 12:32:07 by Web DeskPakistani cueist Muhammad Asif won the IBSF World Snooker Championship finals in Bulgaria, beating his opponent, England’s Gary Wilson.
The world champion, who remained unbeaten in the tournament, defeated his opponent 10-8.
Asif bowed to thank Almighty God as soon he won the final 10-8 against experienced Wilson. He was unbeatable throughout the tournament winning all his matches.
Asif maintained a strong lead against Wilson, being up 6-3 at the break. After the break, Wilson made a comeback and tied the score at 8-8, reported Dawn.com.
Asif clinched his title by winning the seventeenth and eighteenth frame. He is the first Pakistani to claim the title since Mohammad Yousuf, who won the championship in 1994.
Asif had earlier sailed into the IBSF World Snooker Championship finals, crushing Malta’s Alex Borg, seven frames to one and secured his place in the final. He had reached the semi-finals after beating Syria 6-2.
He is the second Pakistani to claim the title.after Mohammad Yousuf who won the championship in 1994 while Saleh Mohamamd lost to Pankaj Advani of India in the final of the World Snooker Championship.
