India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is paying no heed to criticism by the ex-players, saying that unlike the critics, he does not have a platform to assess the game.
Citing it as a part of game, the World Cup-winning skipper stated that he is not bothered, because such things do happen when the side performs below-par.
"I don’t have a platform like them. I am not on TV assessing neither do I write columns," said Dhoni when asked to comment about former players criticising him.
"Criticism is a big part and parcel of the game, especially in Indian cricket. You get a lot of support when you perform well. But the same people run you down when you do not do well. I am not bothered by what is being said," he said.
When asked whether there is any pressure on him as captain, Dhoni described that it is his duty to handle such situations, adding that the side, which gets admiration on good results, should take criticism positively.
"It goes either ways. Leading the side for the last three or four years you get in a situation to handle pressure. The good thing is you see both sides of the coin. With every game emotions flow."
"When team does well, you get appreciated and should also take criticism when you don’t do well. The important thing is you learn to walk the middle path," added Dhoni.
On the other hand, England captain Alastair Cook has endorsed Dhoni’s opinion on result-oriented wickets. The left-handed batsman explained that it is hard to produce an outcome in case of a flat track, insisting that there is no point in making dull pitches.
"If the wicket is really flat it is hard to get results. What’s the point of preparing a wicket that will produce drab draws? India will have home advantage. But a turning wicket gives both sides an equal opportunity to win," said Cook, ahead of the third
encounter at Eden Gardens.
He added, "Mumbai gave us a great chance of winning. Mumbai proved with a turning track that it gave both sides a chance to win."
