NAB summons former premier Yousaf Raza Gilani
Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 3:05:51 by Web DeskThe National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Tuesday issued summons to former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the case pertaining to the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as the managing director of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
According to the reports, NAB officials said Gilani had been issued a notice to submit his stance on the matter in two weeks’ time. Earlier, the Supreme Court had declared Khawaja’s appointment as the OGDCL managing director as null and void.
Reports claimed that Adnan Khawaja at the time of his appointment (in Sept 2010) was a personal friend of Gilani and had been working as chairman of the National Vocational Training Commission (NAVTEC).
He had developed a close friendship with the former prime minister during his days in jail about five years ago, the sources told. Khawaja was also said to be a close friend of Faisal Sakhi Butt, an Islamabad-based friend of President Asif Ali Zardari, the sources had said at the time, says some reports.
Earlier, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) summoned Yousaf Raza Gilani on November 16, asking him to record his statement on the appointment of Rao Shakeel Ahmed as director general of Haj in the ministry of religious affairs. However, he didn’t appear before the panel.
The move had prompted the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privilege to seek a written reply from Director General FIA, the interior secretary and an investigation officer for issuing the notices.
