PML-N chief opposes Sindh local government system
Thursday, December 6th, 2012 12:36:42 by Web DeskRejecting the new local government law in Sindh, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday stated that this was an attempt to separate the province.
He said his party would solve problems of Sindh after coming to power. People of Sindh are being subjected to discrimination and LG Ordinance was tantamount to division of Sindh, he added saying collective efforts are required for peace in Karachi.
Speaking to the media, the former two-time premier said, “If two provinces want it and two do not want it, then how can it be made.” Noting how the recently passed Sindh Peoples Local Government Act had created a political storm in Sindh, Nawaz said that the law was an act of dividing Sindh.
“The people of Sindh will never accept this [SPLGA],” the PML-N chief said before adding that his party too had rejected the act. Nawaz added that people of Sindh are looking for an alternative leadership since they did not get anything under the current regime. “There are no jobs, no merit system there; it’s a rule of tyranny.”
Referring to the observations made by the Supreme Court in the Karachi violence case, Nawaz said that political parties in Karachi maintained armed militant wings. “The apex court named these parties and they are sitting in the government there.”
He added that government was doing injustice with the country and there was illegal occupation of land in Karachi. Nawaz was also critical of the PML-Q saying that the party’s politics were beyond comprehension.
Replying to a query, he ruled out the construction of the controversial Kalabagh dam till all provinces agree to its construction.
The Supreme Court in its verdict has named the parties having militant wings but these parties are sitting in the coalition government. How the situation of Karachi can improve under these conditions, he asked.
