President Asif Ali Zardari urges international community to help Pakistan
Thursday, December 6th, 2012 7:07:28 by Web DeskPresident Asif Ali Zardari has urged the international community to help Pakistan economically as it is fighting a war against terror left behind in Afghanistan by the world community.
Addressing members of the Overseas Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Islamabad, the president pointed out that the European Union has granted Preferential Market Access to Pakistan but the country is seeking GSP plus status.
President Zardari called for political consensus on economic policies and their continuity to ensure sustainable development. He asked the business community to highlight sector-specific problems and their solutions.
President said there should be consensus at least for the next ten years to realize the objective of economic development and prosperity.
President Zardari said the government has taken a number of steps to improve the country’s economy and increase resources of the provinces.
Earlier‚ in his speech‚ President of the Chamber Asif Jooma said the member companies of the Chamber re-invested one billion dollar in Pakistan out of their profit last year. It reflects their confidence in the government policies.
Asif Jooma said the members of Overseas Chamber of Commerce and Industries are ready to play their role to expedite the economic development of the country.
