David Charles and Steven Stumph dominate prelims – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals

David Charles and Steven Stumph dominated the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200 yard butterfly and 200 yard breaststroke respectively at the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships.

Charles remained only an inch faster from his toughest contender as he reached the wall for the title with a timing of 1 minute and 47.41 seconds.

His gruelling pace was 0.42 seconds ahead of Nickolaus Orf, who surfaced on the finishing blockade as second fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 47.83 seconds.

Orf was trailed by James Yoder, who remained 0.31 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 48.14 seconds.

Fourth finest spot of the race was gained by Joshua Quallen, who remained 0.28 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 48.42 seconds.

Quallen was 0.19 seconds faster from Pace Clark, who stayed prominent for fifth position of the event and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 48.61 seconds.

Afterwards, Stumph seized top qualification spot of the breaststroke discipline. He was two body lengths away from his closest rival and emerged on the finishing blockade for first position by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.42 seconds.

He stayed 2.13 seconds ahead of Michael Duderstadt, who occupied second fastest qualification spot of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.55 seconds.

Third position of the swim was secured by Curtis Ogren, who stayed 0.85 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.40 seconds.

Fourth finest qualification spot of the event was secured by Nicolas Hatanaka, who remained 0.36 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.76 seconds.

Hatanaka was chased by Cole Hurwitz, who was 0.09 seconds slower and proved his mettle for fifth place by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.85 seconds.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
